Called to Be The Salt and The Light

Sunday’s message was based on the scripture in Matthew 5:13-16, emphasizing being called to be the salt and the light of the world.
The Bible says in James 2:19: “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!”

The message was a good reflection on what we do with our salt and our light. Christians often say: “We are the light of the world.” But what does it really mean?
Is it a matter of carrying your bible around and reading it aloud or in view for everyone to see?

Certainly not! It is in our actions and the condition of our hearts. As the pastor further explained, a simple gesture such as a smile can make a big difference in someone’s life because we don’t know what they might be going through. Our light is supposed to shine daily, and not only when it is convenient for us.

As a result of what Yeshua did for us on the cross, we now have power not in ourselves but because He lives in us. We are the salt of the earth, but what’s the benefit of salt if it loses its flavour? It is useless and benefits no one. When we lose the essence of who we are in Christ, we become like salt without flavour.

May we keep our focus on Him daily so we can bring flavour to the earth and truly be the light of the world.

“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Matthew 5:15-16 NLT
